The 'Scapes Have Landed at Bowersock Gallery, is an exhibit which brings the outside in, featuring the familiar as envisioned through the artists' eye.
The show opens Friday, July 28th, 2023 with a reception from 7 – 9 pm, and runs through Aug 9th, at Bowersock Gallery 373 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA.
‘Scapes features Sheila Barbone and Kevin Kusiolek, two artists who bring vibrant contemporary slice of life snapshots alive with a sense of homeostatic place - quiet, bustling, intimate and vast.
This is not your grandmother's 'scape but rather the modern vision of the world we inhabit. This collection takes a broad look at 'out of doors’ where you might find a quiet contemplative rural landscape, a seascape, or an urban view hustle of a city beat one imagines silenced by a penthouse window. Others present vibrant tourist town scenes, capturing a particular memory in time.
Sheila’s paintings encapsulate the spirit of warm summer days on people-packed streets of small New England towns. Her quite popular Provincetown scenes convey the incredible color of the town's spirit, rhythms and essence, the pendulum swinging between meanderer and reveler, people in place yet decidedly energetic. There’s always palpably boundless joy ever-present in her delightful work.
In terms of technique, Barbone has developed a representational abstracted one of her own. From image to completion each piece begins as a drawing, with paint, wash, palette and brush applied until a bold, painterly, modern scene emerges into being.
Kusiolek is known for his atmospheric urban, and waterway scenes: lights reflecting off pavements splashing on nearby buildings, or reflected in waters where city meets sea. His work is very stylized, with a unique perspective as he balances abstract with realism, even bringing the urban scene to the seascape. Whether a bird's eye or sweeping view, he masterfully captures the human stage and reflects the pulse of its inhabitants.
‘Scapes Have Landed will offer a very expansive collection of all things 'scape where it’s all about place. Additional fantasy and surreal-scapes by the Bowersock stable of artists will also be included.
