Biography:

Jeanne McCartin is, above all, a storyteller. Her work delves deeply into the exploration of human emotion, blending symbolic and narrative elements to craft evocative sculptures and sculpted theater under her artistic alias, Jannie. A multi-disciplinary artist, McCartin's expertise spans sculpture, costume design, and cultural and arts writing, with each discipline informing and enriching the others.

McCartin began her artistic journey creating non-wearable, expressive wall masks before transitioning to full-figure sculptures. Her desire to tell more intricate and layered stories ultimately led her to develop the 3-D sculpted paintings she has been crafting for decades. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and is part of the permanent collection of the City of Portsmouth, NH.
