Biography:
Angela Alés is an artist born in Barranquilla, Colombia, of Andalusian and Lebanese descent. Alés graduated from Cooper Union, in New York City where she was awarded a full scholarship. She also received her MFA from Miami International University of Art and Design.
Alés’ artistic process has, in large part, been both the means of searching for spiritual and philosophical meaning in her life, as well as the act of recording this search. Throughout this journey recurring symbols and icons have solidified into her own personal language. Most recently, her socio-political experiences as a Latin American, an immigrant, and a female artist have come to the forefront of her inner dialogue and have coalesced as a central theme of her unique artistic voice.
