Robert Wellings is an artist residing in Chester County, PA. Rob’s paintings and drawings of the landscape are concerned with the suggestive qualities of the materials he works with, including oil, acrylic, charcoal, and pastel. The process is one of exploration, trying to arrive at an image that evokes a feeling a mystery, a sense of place that is both foreign and familiar. Rob often works from imagination and memory. In these works, previous layers are left revealed, pointing to the layering found in nature, the creative process, and the existential endeavor to find form and meaning.
From 2009 to 2012 he studied at The Academy of Realist Art in Boston and at Cambridge Street Studios in Philadelphia. Pursuing his love of landscape painting, Rob sought a contemporary practitioner and began his studies with Deborah Paris as a student in her newly formed Landscape Atelier. He completed the program in 2015 and is currently a teacher in the Landscape Atelier Drawing and Painting Program. Rob’s work is collected throughout the United States and internationally.
