Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1962, Lauren grew up in a family of accomplished artists. She went on to earn a degree in the Fine Arts from the University of New Hampshire and soon after was involved in the Graphic Arts, becoming the art director for several magazines and projects. As well, she lends her skills as an illustrator and seminar leader in the field. Lauren has now returned to creating Fine Art in a wearable form, is an independent jeweler living in York, Maine, and a Juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

“I feel strongly about creating art pieces that are accessible and functional for people in their everyday life. “I work with color, texture and pattern combined with other elements to create complex pieces which evoke a sense of unity. With each piece constructed, a new combination has developed. This is the beauty of making one-of-a-kind jewelry; each piece has its’ own history,” she notes.

Though Lauren’s work maintains a contemporary style, it stems from a varied set of influences and mediums. She enjoys using primitive shapes “because they challenge the imagination” as well as classical and/or traditional shapes “because they offer a sense of familiarity.” Organic textures and colors or “tones of the earth” are also very evident in her work. Many of the pieces have incorporated some type of landscape providing, “a feeling of the sea, desert or mountains as land meets sky.”

Whether as a wearable accessory or for the wall, Lauren’s use of beads, stones, minerals, metals, sea glass, and found objects combine to provide numerous color, textural and design combinations.
