University of Akron, Akron Ohio

Raised in the “Rust Belt” city of Akron Ohio, John Brickels grew up to appreciate the beauty of entropy and weatherization, especially when applied to architecture. Nautical themes close by in the Great Lakes also grabbed his attention.

John has exhibited and lectured across the United States. The City of San Antonio commissioned John to create sculptures of the Spanish Missions which were presented to visiting dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth, President George H. W. Bush, and Pope John Paul II.

His work has been exhibited by the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C., the Shelburne Museum, Shelburne Vermont and the Springfield Museums Group, Springfield Massachusetts.
