“This is the gallery’s first call for art, juried exhibitions,” says Steve Bowersock, curator and co owner. “There were 98 submission from across the country, and even a few international entries. In the end we selected 29 pieces, representing 16 artists.” Bowersock and Kim Bernard, nationally renowned encaustic artist, juried the entries. Bernard’s is known for her sculpture, installations and encaustic works. Her art has been shown in numerous galleries and exhibitions including at the Art Complex Museum, Saco Museum, Currier Museum of Art, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Montserrat College of Art, Merrimack College and Phillips Exeter Academy. Her work has been reviewed in the “Boston Globe” and “Art News” and is featured in the recent publication “100 Artists of New England.” At the Juror’s Talk Bernard and Bowersock will discuss the exhibit and why pieces were selected. “There was some fun debate between myself and Kim, it’s interesting how differently we saw some of the work,” says Bowersock. “It’s likely we’ll share some of those exchanges.”

The art includes a 3-D, 10-foot tall ladder “which truly pushes the envelope,” says Bowersock. There are wall-hung pieces, mixed medium, relief work, and sculpture. The artists, from California to Maine and many states in between, include some of the top in the field. Many have exhibited widely, nationally and internationally, placed works in permanent collections and museums and created permanent public installations. Numerous exhibitors have been featured in national and regional publications.

Artist: Linda Cordner, Denby Dale, Helene Farrar, Milisa Galazzi, Lynette Haggard, Sue Katz, Katie Kauffman, Diane Aldrich Kleiss, Catherine Nash, Marc St. Pierre, Sherrie Posternak, Toby Sisson, Kathleen Waterloo, Judith Williams, Gregroy Wright. “This is a wildly varied exhibit,” says Bowersock. “We took some risk and I think in the end that makes for an incredible show.”
