About William Thomson

Thomson’s work runs the gamut: landscapes, cityscapes, interior and figurative works, in either acrylic, encaustic, egg tempera, oil or watercolor, most often in warm, rich, earth tones. What remains consistent is a marked style and stroke –clearly that of a master – and an incredible haunting and intriguing atmosphere, regardless of the subject or mood.

Thomson’s work is included in numerous international museum and university collections, among them the Britain Museum of American Art, Holyoke Museum of Art & History, Mattatuck Museum, DeCordova Museum, Berkshire Museum, and Slater Museum.

There is a power in his works that defies definition. Each, even the most abstract work, is imbued with such a strong sense of emotion that it’s impossible not to feel moved. “William Thomson is truly one of the best American painters alive."

What makes him so is the surety of his skill and style, something only decades of working one’s craft can achieve, Bowersock notes, and only for those with an exceptional, natural skill. Bill works in all kinds of mediums from acrylic, encaustic, egg tempera, oil to watercolor but somehow they all tie together producing an amazing image it’s the discovery of how mediums and how they operate is what drives this artist.
