Art has always been an integral part of my life... with the soul of the artist being of sound importance in the journey to create. The outcome of this exploration has never been easy to classify or categorize for me,
and I hope it to stay that way for the extent of my career. I feel the medium, the chosen colors, tone, value and surface should be changed to accommodate each piece for the desired outcome. Schooling often has eluded me, yet I have always studied, sketched and painted as a normal daily routine no less important than brushing my teeth, and I have worked art into my employment and life whenever possible.
I try not to allow outside influences to creep into my work...only to realize that they are what make up my finished product. Anyone who knows me well has drawn attention to the fact that my work is symbolically
readable, and everyday issues, trauma and triumphs are glaringly evident
in the subjects and style.
For the artist within me to work effectively, it must be automatic, and these things can be tapped and put into images that are created from inside, and only upon completion of the painting, can they be read and seen by the viewer.
Music is in large part the backbone of a lot of my pieces because I see no difference between a painting and brilliantly composed sound. The shapes are there, the voice is there, and it comes together with a beginning and end to tell us a story and let us escape the grind of everyday life and stress. To properly enjoy a painting, the artist must be explored as well, even the unmet, faceless artist we will never know.
There is so much humanity in a painting or a song.... the love I have for creating and viewing art of any kind will never go away.
