Biography: After nearly 25 years on the west coast, Alison Golder recently relocated to the east coast, where she works diligently to reclaim her native east coast groove.
Reflecting a longstanding fascination with the consequences of time on things, Golder’s surfaces are often quiet and nuanced, inviting a closer, more contemplative look. The “object” elements in her work reference more primitive means of tracking - counting, measuring, recording, weighing - and the lost simplicity of past methodologies. The objects in her pieces are intentionally ambiguous, but their open-ended nature is meant to invite personal association and interpretation.
Presently working primarily in the medium of encaustic, a background in both sculpture and printmaking informs the sensibility of her current work.
